Financial Literacy Activities Ideas

  • Financial lesson - saving, setting goals (PowerPoint presentation or printed workbook).
  • Make savings banks to use to save toward a savings goal.
  • Provide financial literacy materials: money-related coloring and activity books (designed for young ones) and brochures, money games and puzzles (for older youth).
  • Visit a financial institution to inquire about opening a youth savings account.

Financial Literacy Activities for Banks and Credit Unions

  • Hold an open house for the children of customers/members or invite school groups to tour the branch and learn about financial processes.
  • Have staff make presentations at local schools on financial topics.
  • Get involved in the High School Financial Planning Program®.
  • Hold a Financial Fair with games, contests, and prizes to attract young people and help them learn about your credit union.
  • Offer presentations aimed at young people on relevant topics such as student loans, balancing a checkbook, and auto loans.
  • Hold a How to Buy Your First Car seminar.
  • Host a bicycle safety clinic for younger kids.
  • Conduct a financial literacy essay contest or coloring contest.
  • Offer higher interest rates on savings to youth bringing in a report card with good grades.
  • Donate copies of financial education materials to local schools.
