2nd Annual NMLS Users Conference and Training

The Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) will hold its 2nd Annual NMLS Users Conference and Training, February 9 – 11, 2010 in San Diego, California. NMLS was developed by state mortgage regulators through the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) to streamline the licensing process and improve the supervision of the mortgage industry.

With passage of the SAFE Act and the posting of FDIC’s final draft rule, bank and credit union mortgage loan originators will soon be in the process of being registered through NMLS.

Sessions are designed for both state licensee users of NMLS and those who will be registering as mortgage loan originators. Whether your MLOs need to be licensed or registered, you will gain valuable insight into effectively using NMLS. Hear from experienced users and legal experts the important do's and don'ts of using NMLS. All users can learn how the SAFE Act is being implemented and hear how the licensing and registration processes will work. Mortgage loan originators working for federally-insured depositories can learn the basics of using NMLS to apply for and maintain a license in one or more states.

This timely and valuable gathering of state mortgage regulators, federal banking agencies and industry professionals like yourself is being co-sponsored by the Department of Financial Institutions along with other state banking regulators across the country.

Your institution and your institution’s mortgage loan originators will have to learn this new system. With all the changes taking place in regulating the mortgage industry, it is in the best interests of your organization to stay informed on the issues relating to this important system. The conference program will provide you with the knowledge to use NMLS more effectively and gain a better understanding of pertinent issues in state and federal mortgage licensing and registration.

Please review the attached agenda. I think you will agree that the conference topics are what your organization will need to be familiar with and improve your regulatory compliance.

Registration information can be found on the NMLS Resource Center website at www.nationwidelicensingsystem.org. Please register and make your room reservations right away.

Sincerely,

/s/

William S. Haraf
Commissioner of Financial Institutions
