Financial Literacy - Why? National Facts
Financial Literacy: It Pays Dividend$
April 2008 has been designated California Financial Literacy Month (CFLM) to highlight the importance of financial literacy and encourage all Californians to increase their understanding of saving, investing and credit choices.
Financial literacy empowers Californians to make wise financial decisions. California consumers face many choices which affect their financial future. Every day, consumers conduct some type of financial transaction requiring a well-informed and educated decision: reconciling credit card statements; securing affordable financing for a new or used car; saving for their children's college education and retirement; starting a family business or realizing the American dream of homeownership.
We encourage you to use the resources on this site to enhance financial literacy. The CFLM site contains information from California state departments and agencies, as well as federal agencies and non-profit and advocacy organizations. The Outreach Activities and Toolkit section provides ideas on how you can get involved in your community along with materials to help you promote California Financial Literacy Month, including a Gubernatorial Proclamation, downloadable web banners and buttons, printable posters, sample press releases, letters to the Editor and PSAs.
Thank you for your commitment to financial literacy!
