Theme: Empowering Californians To Make Well-Informed Financial Decisions
April has been designated California Financial Literacy Month (CAFLM) to highlight the importance of financial literacy and encourage all Californians to increase their understanding of saving, investing and credit choices. Financial literacy empowers Californians to make informed financial decisions. Consumers face many choices which affect their financial future. Every day, we conduct some type of financial transaction requiring a well-informed and educated decision.
As a statewide public awareness effort, California Financial Literacy Month is the perfect opportunity for businesses, including financial institutions, and community organizations to highlight their current financial literacy efforts or become involved in this important effort to make financial literacy education a priority. Businesses and organizations can partner together or individually provide free workshops, classroom visits, resource fairs and other types of community events. We can also contribute materials and resources to facilitate and promote events.
We encourage you to use the resources on this site and on the CAFLM Portal to enhance financial education, protection and empowerment efforts. Information, curriculum and other types of materials are produced by state and federal agencies, as well as financial institutions, educators, non-profit and advocacy organizations. Thank you for your commitment to financial literacy! For additional information on CAFLM, please contact Alana Golden, Consumer Education and Outreach Coordinator, at Alana.Golden@dfi.ca.gov or 916-323-7012.
California Financial Literacy Partners
CAFLM efforts are part of the DFI's Community Affairs, Consumer Education and Outreach program. In an effort to educate all Californians to better understand the array of financial services and products available, the DFI Consumer Education and Outreach Program partners with others who are making financial literacy a priority. DFI and its partners help all ages, from students to seniors, through this program by offering resources, materials, speakers, workshops and other educational activities. For more information about DFI's Consumer Education and Outreach Program, please contact Alana Golden at (916) 323-7012 or Alana.Golden@dfi.ca.gov. The DFI Community Affairs Program function supports DFI’s mission to protect and serve California’s citizens through the effective regulation and supervision of financial institutions licensed by the Department and to promote stability and public confidence in the nation’s financial system by encouraging state-chartered financial institutions to invest in the communities they serve and by promoting programs that protect and inform consumers.
